Letter from the President

Welcome to the Wenonah High School Grand Alumni Association, I wish to report that the outlook for the coming year is brighter than it has been for some time.  With a positive, assertive attitude, nothing can stop us. We are proud of our accomplishments in such a short period of existence.  We are making giant strides in meeting our organizational goal of making an alumnus contact list while still proceeding to support the school. Rosalind Rudolph Young pres@whsgaa.org

Wenonah Coach Emanuel Bell is big in basketball and blazers

Emanuel Bell was dressed for battle when he entered the Birmingham-Jefferson Convention Complex arena to coach the Wenonah High School Lady Dragons to victory in the state 5A basketball finals on Saturday, Feb. 28. Forget jeans and Jordans. His combat attire was a pressed black suit, white bow tie and polished Stacy Adams. Fans noticed Bell's sharp look as soon as he stepped onto the court. And so did AL.com, which has him listed as a contestant in its poll for the Best Dressed Basketball Coach in the Alabama high school basketball playoffs. (Bell came in second.)  Complete article

Kaitlyn Rodgers

Birmingham Metro Player of the Year

Kaitlyn Rodgers anticipated the pass, but waited until the last second to break on the ball. Standing alone at the back of Wenonah’s 2-2-1 full court press, the 6-foot-2 junior sprang from the top of the key and grabbed the pass intended for an unsuspecting Talladega player on the right sideline during the AHSAA Class 5A semifinal game. Rodgers sped down court, needing only four dribbles to run past the Talladega defense.

She slid by one defender 10 feet from the basket and laid up a one-handed shot over another, but the ball bounded off the backboard. No matter. Rodgers grabbed the rebound over two defenders and put the ball in the basket. The play typified the talent and ability of the girls AL.com Birmingham Metro Player of the Year. Complete article
